Introduction to Clay: 4-Week Class
This four-week introductory clay class is designed for beginners who want to explore both the pottery wheel and handbuilding techniques. You will experience the thrill of using the wheel and the slow, calm work of building by hand.
Week 1: You will be introduced to the pottery wheel and learn the basics of centering, opening, and pulling clay to create simple forms.
Week 2: Students will trim their wheel-thrown pieces and begin a handbuilding project, learning foundational techniques.
Week 3: The focus will be on completing and refining your first hand-built work and creating another one.
Week 4: In the final class, students will learn glazing techniques and apply glazes to their finished pieces.
By the end of the course, participants will have a strong introduction to clay and several finished ceramic pieces.
Beginner or refresher
March 4th-March 25th
10am-12pm
Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy
Additional studio time to finish your pieces
Pick up final pieces about 2 weeks after final class.
