Morandi and Me with Jess and Jennifer

$325.00

Explore hand-built pottery, drawing, and painting while focusing on the work of Giorgio Morandi. Participants will leave with finished vases, drawings, and paintings.

Six-Week Morandi-Inspired Art Course

Week 1 — Introduction to Morandi
We’ll be introduced to the life and work of Giorgio Morandi, exploring his quiet still lifes and distinctive use of bottles, vessels, color, and composition. Together, we’ll create a small ceramic bottle inspired by the forms found in his paintings.

Week 2 — Building Ceramic Bottles
With step-by-step guidance, you’ll build larger ceramic bottles, exploring shape, proportion, texture, and the simple forms that make Morandi’s work so recognizable.

Week 3 — Color & Glaze
We’ll explore the basics of color theory and take a closer look at Morandi’s subtle and harmonious use of color. We’ll then apply glazes to our bisque-fired ceramic pieces.

Week 4 — Graphite & Pastel
Using our ceramic pieces as inspiration, we’ll explore drawing with graphite and pastel. We’ll focus on observing light and shadow, creating depth and discuss still life principals.

Week 5 — Watercolor Still Life
We’ll use watercolor to paint our ceramic pieces in a still-life arrangement. Through transparent layers of color, we’ll explore value, composition, negative space and Morandi’s restrained approach to color.

Week 6 — Final Acrylic Painting
For our final week, we’ll bring together what we’ve explored throughout the course and create a finished still-life painting in acrylic. We’ll experiment with color, composition, form, and brushwork to develop our own interpretation of Morandi’s timeless style.

  • Sept 24th-October 29th

  • Thursdays from 3-5pm

  • Includes all supplies and firing

  • Beginners welcome! No experience necessary.
