Lidded Box with Kim
Decorated lidded box workshop
Build and decorate a hand built lidded box using the Japanese inlay technique called Mishima. Class will learn how to build a slab box with a fitted lid on the first day. We will let the pieces set up over night and will spend the second day drawing and carving a pattern and /or illustration into the clay on the sides and lid of the box.
Designs can range from a simple pattern of circles and lines to more detailed drawings depending on your comfort zone. We will be drawing our designs on paper and transferring them onto our boxes. Pattern and design will be discussed with examples shown for inspiration. Come enjoy these 2 creative sessions on our light filled space with Kim who is an experienced and highly skilled ceramic artist.

4 week Hand-Building Class begins
Whether you are trying something new or remembering old hand-building skills, join us at our studio to experience the art of pinch and slab techniques. The first week we will explore pinch pots which are unique to each person and then use the pinch method to form small vessels. Those with previous experience may expand this project by adding feet, handles, or spouts.
The second week we will roll out slabs and make slab-built pitchers or a travel mug with added textures. The third week will make a fun project using both the slab and pinch techniques where you explore possibilities with the things you’ve learned. And in the final week we will learn about glazing methods on our bisque fired pieces that will be fired and enjoyed for years to come!
